Where can I find help if I am feeling suicidal?
If you are reading this because you are feeling suicidal, the most important thing to do is to get help and support as soon as possible by contacting:
- your GP
- NHS Direct (0845 46 47)
- the nearest Accident & Emergency department (Whiston Hospital)
- Samaritans (0845 790 90 90)
HOPEline UK is a helpline (0800 068 4141) staffed by trained professionals who provide non-judgemental support, practical advice and information to people up to the age of 35 who are having suicidal thoughts.
There have been various charities and groups set-up to raise the awareness and prevention of suicide, such as PAPYRUS (Young Suicide) and CALM (Men) – these organisations can provide general information and a telephone helpline service for people who are feeling suicidal.
The Mental Health Directory, NHS Choices, Stamp out Suicide and Mind websites also provide general information and frequently asked questions around suicide.
