We are a national charity working to create a society where everyone with lived experience of disability or health conditions can participate fully as equal citizens. Many of our staff and volunteers have lived experience of disability, as do our board members and trustees. Our offices are based in London but we have a national remit, with projects based in Manchester, Leicester, Cheshire and Norfolk. As well as our free factsheets and helpline services, we also produce the Disability Rights Handbook, now in its 40th edition.
Independent Living Publication Taking Charge - A practical guide to living with a disability or health condition - Price £13.99
Taking Charge is aimed at people who are dealing with a deterioration in health in adult life or who have just received a life changing diagnosis. If you have a physical or mental health condition, or if your health is starting to worsen in later life.
The book pulls together both rights and what one has a right to expect and covers planning and managing lifestyle changes as well as personal health and social care, technology and equipment, family, travel, leisure, learning and work. It is an excellent companion to our highly popular Disability Rights Handbook, with a focus more on the personal rather than welfare aspects.
