Young People

Where can I find help with mental health problems for young people?

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (or CAMHS) is a service that works with children and young people (and their families) up to the age of 16 when they have problems which have a serious effect on their daily life - this can include things like anxiety, depression, eating difficulties and coping with traumatic experiences.

The InPartnership Project is a free counselling service for males and females aged between 11 and 19 provided by a charity called Platform 51. You can talk to one of their Counsellors in confidence about a range of issues that may include bullying, relationships, domestic violence, eating disorders, school/college, problems at home, depression, self-harm and much more.

If you would like to talk to someone in confidence over the phone about a mental health problem or concern then there are various helplines available such as Childline (0800 1111), Get Connected (0808 808 4994) and Hopeline (0800 068 4141).

YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people; their Very Important Kids website has lots of information, stories and blogs about mental health and wellbeing, and My Head Hurts is a site that contains information about treatments for mental health and stories from other young people with mental health problems.

TheSite is an information service website for young adults around a whole range of issues including mental health.
